At a recent press conference, Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s behavior sparked discussions about the possibility of his being under the influence of drugs, particularly cocaine. Every Gen Xer has seen the behavior. We saw CEOs, Wall Street types, and even our favorite celebrities do interviews while high on cocaine. They would go out in public, assuming they could pass it off without anyone noticing. Unfortunately for them, everyone did.
We could speculate about what Rubio may have been under the influence of, but cocaine has had such a broad impact on US society that most have seen what it does firsthand. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that people assume that’s what it is. Rubio’s actions, including his jittering, rambling, and facial redness, aside from not answering the majority of questions, involved using a lot of words to repeat himself excessively.
Because the Internet is rife with people asking if Secretary Rubio was under the influence, I reached out to the State Department in an effort to put the public at ease. Many posts showed concern about his health, while others focused on his behavior being drug-induced. I based my questions on the most common concerns I witnessed across several social media sites.
“During the last press conference, Secretary Rubio’s behavior elicited reactions online, suggesting he might have been under the influence. The public seems concerned. Was he under the influence? If not, is he okay? And would he be willing to submit to a drug test to put the public at ease?”
Rubio fumbling over his words and failing to put a cohesive thought together should be cause for concern. Not just because of the clips that are being shared online, but because the entire 2-hour press conference was like that. Most of what he said about Latin American countries wasn’t true. The comments about Maduro and Venezuela were especially blatant, as he claimed no one disputes that Maduro is a drug smuggler, which US intelligence disagrees with.
Whether he’s under the influence of drugs or drunk with power, Rubio continues to spread blatant lies and propaganda about Latin American countries with leftist governments while praising countries whose presidents are far-right Christian white nationalists and have been alleged to have ties to drug-smuggling operations and cartels, such as Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa and El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele.
His behavior is similar to that of other members of the White House and prominent Trump supporters like Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and Palantir CEO Alex Karp. As the saying goes, “You are a product of your environment,” regardless of what drugs you may or may not be using. Rubio is no exception.
You Be the Judge
If you can withstand two hours of Marco Rubio, here’s the full press conference to judge for yourself. Rubio, like all other Secretaries of State, highlights how the Department of State weaponizes propaganda and false narratives about other countries to achieve its aims. The perfect example of that is when he denied that Israel was violating the so-called “Trump ceasefire,” despite the whole world witnessing it.
Some things transcend presidents. Oppressive and imperialistic US foreign policy is one.
*The Department of State has not responded to a request for comment about Marco Rubio’s possible drug use.

The scene going viral starts more than 1 hour after the beginning of the press conference. (About 1:03:20)
So it is unlikely. How can coke last an hour to kick in? Only by eating it, but then, the nose would not be affected.
He is just drunk with power.
