Countless protests against Trump’s anti-immigrant policies, growing fascism, and Western actions on Palestine exploded across the globe and in various cities across the country. In a story you won’t see on cable news and national news networks, discontent with broad U.S. policy and its promotion of a far-right policy agenda continues to grow.
On Saturday, protests in, Illinois, Colorado, and Iowa were among the most noticeable alongside protests in St. Louis, and Rogers, Arkansas. This weekend’s events follow protests in other major cities, such as Los Angeles last week. Meanwhile, global protests against fascism and Trump’s anti-immigrant policies were held all over Europe.
In Germany, protests were held against the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as the group launched its election campaign and Elon Musk broadcast a live video address at a rally for the political faction drew even more questions about him after his Nazi salute last week. Musk said the party is the best chance for the future of Germany while declaring that today’s Germans should be made to feel guilty about the nation’s history relating to the holocaust.
The AfD’s campaign revolves largely around the idea that mass immigration will be the downfall of white Anglo-Western societies. The concept is based on the racist “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory that became popular with the “Turner Diaries” in 1978, followed by David Lane, leader of the now defunct hate group “The Order” publishing the “14 words” in the 1990s, and later, in Europe after French author Renaud Camus published “Le Grand Remplacement” in 2011. The nonsensical hypothesis posits that there is a concerted effort to make white people extinct and that Jews are funding the effort.

What’s happening in Germany and other European countries has an intricate connection to what’s happening in the United States based largely on the same conspiracy theory. While in Europe, some believe that the driver behind it is Islamic, the funding of these efforts and the key players are always Jewish elites. These ideas, as we have discussed before, are largely what’s behind the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant policies that are derived from Trump crony, Stephen Miller who is a believer in the idea. Many Republican lawmakers also believe this.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has publicly expressed these ideas in the press, on social media, and even on the House floor in Congress. Vice President JD Vance expressed similar views in denouncing the false notion that the demographic makeup in the U.S. is intentionally being changed. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep, Lauren Boebert (R-CO), former Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and Rep. Elise Setfanik (R-NY) are among many other Republicans who also believe in the “white genocide” conspiracy theory.
That the idea is so popular among conservatives has resulted in a complete makeover of the Republican Party in that they are no longer trying to disguise their beliefs – no more dog whistles, just blatant racism and antisemitism. However, the Republican Party has also been successful in driving narratives that claims of racism within the party are unfounded and are just more “woke” ideology. That success is largely driven by media complacency and appeasement.
To combat such ideas society must take a more direct approach in addressing these issues with the people within our proximity who believe these ideas. While this has been an issue I have long tried to get people to confront with their friends, family members, and coworkers, there is no better time than the present as many nonwhite people are falling victim to the lies and in turn, supporting those elected officials who are willingly about to do them harm.
While many may have to suffer before they see the light, it’s up to the rest of us to try to prevent more people from falling for it. The protests mentioned here can be a good place to start, but it’s up to lawmakers and elected officials at every level to address these issues in the public sphere alongside us. Recent actions have noted that many lawmakers are heeding the call.
