The 12th bus of asylum-seekers arrived in Los Angeles, California from Texas as other cities like Chicago and New York City struggle with housing migrants from the Global South. While it may seem that “Democrat-Run” cities can’t handle the influx, the truth is, if Texas Governor Greg Abbot cared at all about human lives, he would’ve coordinated with those governments.
He didn’t because he doesn’t and the chaos is intentional.
This is how Republicans choose to rule because the more confused their base is the easier it is to pull the wool over their eyes. Creating a false narrative of a situation in complete disarray makes it easier for them to blame President Joe Biden and immigrants seeking a better life than the ones we destroyed in their home countries. Conservative loudmouths like the founder of the Guardian Angles, Curtis Sliwa, are all over the internet and in the streets targeting everyone except Texas Gov. Abbott – the one person behind it all.
They’re driving false narratives against Black Mayors and immigrants from the Global South in their quest to save their “whiteness” from itself. Fears of dwindling populations of the most privileged in Western countries are as racist as they come. Narratives born centuries ago are still in circulation today as if the global minority is under some feigned threat when no one cares about targeting a cultureless society for any reason other than to claim liberation from it.
Sure, they may not like that the attention will never be solely on them anymore. Of course, they don’t like that they’ll no longer be the only ones represented in most media. Yes, the rest of the world has caught on to their dumbfuckery enough to declare we had enough of it. So they attack the most vulnerable in our society: the LGBTQ community, Indigenous people, Black people, Latinos, and of course, non-white migrants – as if the West wasn’t already built on atrocity and genocide.
These are the same reasons you never hear about cities struggling to house Ukrainian refugees or the European “illegals” that overstay their visas. People who come into the country through points of entry and stay “illegally” hovers around 40%, according to multiple studies. Yet, we only hear about “the border” when it comes to immigration. If you ever wondered why you don’t hear about immigrants from South Asia beholden to their U.S. employers or who run a high risk of losing their work visas, being deported, and being separated from their families, this is why.
The media and society alike only focus on non-white undocumented immigrants because, well, racism and xenophobia. U.S. culture, if that’s what you want to call it, is programmed into thinking and treating non-white migrants as if they are terrorists. It is in this vein that Texas Gov. Abbott is doing what he’s doing and the Biden administration is allowing it with little-to-no pushback.
Because that’s who this country is.
